PERSONALITY--
[break][break]
Rasmus is the black sheep of the family. Despite his family's best efforts to raise him to follow their path to become palace guards, Rasmus always resisted. He never changed how he was. They wanted him to be serious and rigid, disciplined in all ways, but he had been a free spirit from the start. There is a curious side of him that cannot be tamed, and it has a knack for getting him into trouble. Rasmus is the type of person who will swim--wait, no, what was the word? Run!--straight toward potential danger in order to check out something that may or may not end up worth the risk. This sort of reckless behavior is exactly why he had been thrust into rigorous training sessions ran by his father. The only good this did him was making him more obedient toward authority. For the most part, it only stemmed from the fact that he did not want to be punished. Eventually, it just became so ingrained in himself that he sometimes follows orders blindly.
[break][break]
Despite how reckless and distracted he can seem, Rasmus is a very organized individual. He almost always has his thoughts collected, and his belongings have a specific place here he leaves them. It is rare for him to lose something, and he is quite reliable if you need him to handle something for you. He is also very understanding of almost every understanding. He tries to keep his mind open to every possibility, and he will not question your judgement unless it seems too far-fetched or has the high possibility of causing you harm. When it comes to himself, however, he can become very self-destructive. There is that lack of regard for himself that seems to end with him running himself into the ground. As much as you can expect him to take care of others, you should not expect him to take care of himself.
[break][break]
Rasmus is a soft-spoken man. It is rare for him to raise his voice no matter how frustrated or angry he becomes. That bark of anger you might expect to hear is always hushed before it can form in his throat. For this reason, he can seem very quiet when you first meet him. There is always that excited bubble of questions that might spew from his mouth upon something new being brought up, but, for the most part, he has been taught to bite his tongue. To those who get close enough for him to warm up to and no longer care for the values instilled in him by his family, they will find him not only speaking more openly but becoming very, very sarcastic. He is also highly artistic, and he has natural skill in both vocal arts and fine arts. He has taken to painting since coming to Daybreak Town.
[break][break]
HISTORY--
[break][break]
Born to a family with a strong lineage of guards for the king of Atlantica, high stakes were placed for the young Rasmus's future the moment he could open his eyes. His father ranked high in the palace guards, and his elder brother was already beginning his training. Then there was Rasmus, always ducking out of lessons and hiding where he could not be found. He frustrated his mother to no end, and she always had to call upon his brother, Malthe. The pair were as close as can be, and his brother always seemed to be able to find him, even when Rasmus thought he had found a better hiding spot. Malthe would coax the younger out with promises to play with him as soon as training was over, and Rasmus would behave for a few hours.
[break][break]
He was around six when his mother was tired of dealing with him, so she convinced her husband to start his training early. Due to his age, he started off with coral swords wrapped in seaweed so he would not harm himself. However, it became increasingly obvious that Rasmus would rather be anywhere but there. Once the excitement of getting the basics down was over, he took every opportunity to slip away from his father. If he was left alone for even a moment to speak with the other guards, Rasmus would flee and swim as far away as he could. Eventually, they started scheduling his training sessions with his brother's to keep Rasmus from (successfully) swimming away. In time, he was allowed to spar with Malthe, but he found that he could never beat him. It was to be expected due to the gap in experience, but it was still a blow to Rasmus's self-esteem.
[break][break]
He was twelve when his brother was officially appointed to the palace guard. Malthe became busier and busier while settling into his new position, and his absence from training sessions allowed Rasmus's antics to start up again. During one such day, he bumped into the king's youngest daughter, Ariel, in the palace grounds. Rasmus was quick to scoop the young redhead up before she could be knocked back, and he offered her an apologetic smile as he released her. He swam off immediately after, but their fates were already intertwined. The princess followed after him, struggling to keep up, and Rasmus only noticed when the palace was nothing more than a blurry light in the distance.
[break][break]
He slammed on the breaks, turning around to confront the child. He was already going to be in trouble for skipping practice, and now he had the princess following him! Part of him said to take her back, but there was another part that said they were too far out already. With a moment of contemplation, he jutted out his hand and introduced himself. He took her hand, giving a reassuring smile, before guiding her to the hiding spot he had planned out earlier that day. Getting the princess back to the palace was the hard part. They had to sneak past all the guards who were already on the lookout for her, and Rasmus had to keep Ariel from talking and blowing their cover. He was able to get the princess back without being caught, but Rasmus, on the other hand, was found as he was leaving the palace.
[break][break]
A pattern soon formed, one he was perfectly fine with. There would be days when the princess would sneak out to watch his practice, hoping that it would be the day he would flee and take her on another adventure. Most days ended in failure, yet it was a good opportunity for them to become friends bit by bit. When the princess was older, he managed to sneak her out of the palace more easily. Neither wanted to attend their duties: Ariel wanted more than her lessons, and Rasmus was bored with his training. They were the perfect pair, and Rasmus could see his own curious (and reckless) behavior beginning to reflect in the redheaded princess. They sought out adventure together, exploring locations no one wanted them to go. They sang and danced to their hearts content without bothering with the judgement and strict rules placed by the king. Rasmus became skilled in outsmarting Sebastian when he tried to spoil their fun. Rasmus was always on the search for new places to hide and new experiences, and he found himself fascinated by the princess's growing desire to know about the world outside the sea.
[break][break]
He was seventeen when he became an official palace guard, and a rift was immediately torn between the two. Just like when his brother became a guard, Rasmus became too busy. He could no longer find the time to spend with his young friend, and his heart yearned for the adventures they once had. The strict rules of the guard were meant to be followed, and he could no longer afford to play around like he used to. Rasmus receded into himself, becoming the straight-laced guard that his family wanted him to be. His brother and Ariel were the only ones displeased with this change. He was no longer Rasmus, just a hollow shell of the merman he once was. His brother came up with a plan, and he negotiated with their father. Their father then spoke with King Triton, and, at the age of nineteen, Rasmus was assigned to protect the princesses.
[break][break]
While it was not the most ideal situation, especially since there were times when he was dealing with all seven princesses at once, it did allow him to spend time with his dear friend, no matter how fleeting some of their conversations became. Rasmus was self-conscious about the company they kept. He did not want to break from the facade the others were expecting of the guard, and the small times he could find himself alone with Ariel and able to return to his true self were few and far between. But, it was a start.
[break][break]
As time stretched on, more guards were assigned to the princesses. He no longer had to divide his attention between most of the princesses and the search for danger. He was twenty-three when he found himself chasing after Ariel time and time again because she did not want to participate in her lessons, much to the dismay of Sebastian. Any other guard would have tried to stop and drag her back to the palace, but Rasmus chose to accept her decisions. He understood very well where she was coming from, after all. One could say it was like their adventures in their youth, only this time there were more threats as Ariel grew bolder and bolder to stray farther from the palace.
[break][break]
And then came one last fateful day. A large shark had marked a target on the young princess and her friend, Flounder, as they were investigating a shipwreck. Rasmus remained outside of the shipwreck, despite his curiosity urging him to follow, but he resisted. He could feel a sense of danger running down his spine, and he kept his eyes peeled as he patrolled the wreck. Then he noticed the shark speeding toward the ship. His grip tightened on the hilt of his sword, and he dashed forward to intercept the shark before the princess and her friend could notice.
[break][break]
Just as he blade was about to make contact, the world fell to black.
[break][break]
Darkness swallowed him, and he tried to swim forward in search of a light. A moment passed by before a dull, blurry light formed beneath him. He knew not to trust lights in the darkness: predators used them in the darkest parts of the ocean to lure prey. Yet, this light was softer and filled him with a sense of calm. Pushing aside his instincts, he swam down until the light sharpened and revealed something he had never scene before. Pale, almost translucent colors formed shapes and images, almost like the tattered tapestries he had seen in shipwrecks. Then a voice spoke, and his world went black once more.
[break][break]
He awoke with a start in a world unlike his own. The first thing he noticed was how dry it was. Where was the water? Why wasn't he shriveling up? Why did he have two tails? Oh, wait, those are feet.
[break][break]
Rasmus is still getting used to his new surroundings, his new body, and his new purpose in life. Even with everything that has been going on to keep him preoccupied, however, there is still that sense of guilt and dread that something might have happened to the princess in his absence.

Coral is a Cyber Yog with a rather skittish demeanor. She is almost always alert and on the lookout for danger. Coral used to take off without warning after being scared by a shadow, but she quickly started hiding behind Rasmus. When she does find a situation or area where she feels comfortable enough--a safe place, if you will--then her true personality starts to break through. She is as curious as a toddler, and it is not uncommon for her to stick her head in something and end up with a box or bag on her horns. Coral can be quite excitable and playful, though these traits tend to hide themselves once a stranger enters the picture.
